Info:
Hear the courageous story of Atlanta's Federal District Court Judge Horace T. Ward as we mark the 50th Anniversary of the landmark case Brown v. Board of Education. In 1950, Ward stood up against a segregated public education system when he applied for admssion into the University of Geogia School of Law. Ward would become the first African American to sue for admission into an all white Georgia institution of higher learning, a battle he waged for 7 years. His lawsuit, though unsuccessful, played a key role in efforts toward desegregating colleges and universities in his home state. After earning his law degree from Northwestern University, he would later represent Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Homes in the lawsuit that led to the integration of the University of Geogia in 1961.
