Juice Newton has been called a lot of things...the "Queen of Hearts," "Angel of the Morning," and "The Sweetest Thing," all titles of some of her biggest hits. This dynamic artist with her distinctive voice and stage presence continues to deliver riveting performances which include her songs from country, pop and rock, as well as covers of artists as diverse as Tom Petty, Buck Owens, and Queen. Winner of the Grammy for Best Pop Female, the Academy of Country Music's New Female Vocalist of the Year, and a People's Choice Award, Juice Newton has had strings of top-10 hits since breaking into the business in the 1980s. She will play the Firehouse Arts Center with her trio, including long-time musical collaborator Otha Young.
The freshest serving of Juice is "American Girl," her most recent album with Renaissance Records, produced with Otha Young who joins her at the Firehouse show. "I wanted the title 'American Girl' because, like America, this project offers a lot to choose from," Juice says, "and like the changing role of American women in business and society, I wanted to re-define the term. The American girl isn't so predictable anymore."
Newton is one of those performers who obviously loves what she's doing when she hits the stage. She is always in motion, displaying vocal dynamics and a commanding presence. A music critic said it best: "Newton remains one of the most riveting performers in country music, rocking on stage and playing each emotion for what it's worth." Juice credits her enthusiastic performances to the philosophy of "owing your audience more than just going through the motions. I go out there wanting to have a good time, and making sure the audience does too."
The show is one night only. Ms. Newton will be available after the concert to sign CDs and chat with audience members.
