Info:
After an oversold first showing at Z Below, PianoFight moves upstairs to the 243-seat Z Space to present its largest-ever, one-night-only event where an all new line-up of performers of sketch, stand up, poetry, music, dance and wrestling will compete in the most creatively supportive arena possible, Variety Show Death Match II: Pope Caesar's Revenge. Artists will contend for the adoration of audience members and the mercy of Pope Caesar the Brutal, under whose unflinching eye their creative and mortal fates will be decided.
In the style of gladiators of old, Variety Show Death Match II: Pope Caesar's Revenge allows the audience to help Pope Caesar the Brutal determine if these brave entertainers receive mercy... or death. Featuring a mix of mediums, Variety Show Death Match II includes a reading from the soon-to-be-published novella by company member Evan Winchester a new sketch from PianoFight's female-driven sketch comedy group ForePlays and poetry from Jamie DeWolf (producer and host of Tourettes Without Regrets). The premiere of an original song and house band responsibilities will fall to the PianoFight Music Department... if they can stave off the rabid house band newcomers The Sound of Death. Xzist Martinez heads up a breakdance battle PianoFight company member Rachel Rockwood takes the mic for stand up Mission CTRL presents a new and extremely practical iPhone app and for the main event of the evening, the crowd will storm the stage for an Oakland style Hoodslam wrestling match.
Prepping for the opening of its two-theater and restaurant bar venue, PianoFight has hired Pope Caesar the Brutal to identify the best Bay Area talent. "We'd seen Pope Caesar the Brutal's incredible results at other organizations like the Catholic Church, the Roman Empire, and Quiznos, so we decided to give him a long leash here," explains Artistic Director Rob Ready. "We really like the 'death match' format, though we are concerned it could be a real waste of talent."
