Info:
Experience the entire Oakland Museum of California for the first time since its transformation-for free! Explore the just-reopened Gallery of California Natural Sciences, and enjoy special exhibitions, the OMCA Store, and cafe. With Gold Panning and Garden Investigations from 12-3 pm, the entire Museum is open for a free exploration of the natural world. An array of customized "art cars," or personalized vehicles, will be parked on Oak Street as a part of the closing celebrations for we/customize, OMCA's participatory, experimental exhibition exploring how people modify and personalize everyday objects.
In the new Gallery, discover nature in the Golden State as never before. Explore Oakland, Yosemite, Mount Shasta, Sutter Buttes, Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary, the Tehachapis, and Coachella Valley for a sampling of the state's world-class biodiversity. Offering a thoughtful and comprehensive representation of the interaction between humans and the natural world, the Gallery features immersive habitat installations, world-class dioramas, and emerging technologies. Hear the story of California's natural world through the voices of local community members and scientists, and discover how you can make a difference.
Check museumca.org/natural-sciences for a full schedule of programs for opening weekend.
OMCA is located one block from the Lake Merritt BART Station. Enjoy secure parking in OMCA's Oak Street garage. $1/hour for Museum visitors with ticket validation.
Free First Sundays are made possible in part by Wells Fargo.
