Overview

After projects enter the execution phase, the emphasis of the project manager’s effort changes from planning to controlling the work. Control of the project is most effective when the control process integrates scope management with cost and schedule management.

In order to properly control the project, it must be thoroughly planned and the metrics well defined. Once the detailed planning is complete and baselined, the most effective way to control is by using Earned Value Management. But EVM has its own costs and overhead associated with it and may not be worthwhile for small or medium-size projects. For these projects, you can create solid integrated control processes without setting up an EVM system. This course will show you how to control projects both with EVM and without EVM.

The class approach is highly interactive with a variety of exercises supplementing the presentation material. Calculators will be needed.

Overview

Scrutiny of projects can provide assurance that projects are managed in a way that mitigates risk. Without monitoring, projects can spin silently out of control. At some point, it may be apparent that the project is over budget, late or both. However, by this time, resources and time have generally been wasted. Such costs can run into the millions. Learn what to look for so you can successfully audit and monitor projects.
