TEACH TOMORROW IN OAKLAND - A NEW MODEL FOR TEACHING IN URBAN COMMUNITIES - Teach Tomorrow in Oakland Hosts Teacher Recruitment Fair - August 22nd
Research suggests that nationwide, three out of every 10 students drop out of high school. Leaders at Teach Tomorrow In Oakland (TTO) believe we must build our own educator recruitment and development pipeline so students of color see and connect with adults with common experiences.
TTO-a partnership between Mayor Dellums' office and the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD)-is committed to recruiting and retaining outstanding teachers who reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of the City. In its continued effort to diversify the teaching workforce in Oakland, TTO hosts throughout the year teacher recruitment fairs for individuals who are looking to change career, and those who have recently earned their bachelor degree or will soon earn their bachelors to consider teaching as a career.
TTO's commitment is to recruit diverse high-quality, prospective teachers who possess three (3) key principles: ensuring that all students achieve at high levels, professional development, and long-term employment within OUSD. Recruits are given full support to navigate the pathway to credentialing which includes test preparation, financial support and placement in a full-time job.
The next recruitment fair will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 22nd, 2013 at Spanish Speaking Citizen's Foundation 1470 Fruitvale, Oakland, Room 7.
To-date TTO has placed over 46 diverse teachers who are currently working in OUSD. Since 2008, TTO has operated under generous funding from the Teel Family Foundation, Federal Transition to Teach program, and the Packard Foundation.
Individuals interested attending the August 22nd teacher recruitment fair to learn more about entering the OUSD potential teacher pool are asked to register at ttoraza.eventbrite.com or call 510.273.2339.
