Lilly Ledbetter will be the keynote speaker at the South Bay Women's Conference co-sponsored by the Interbranch Council of AAUW and the San Jose Branch. Keynote speech is scheduled at !:00-2:15 PM.
Lilly has been fighting for women's rights to equal pay since she learned she had been underpaid at Goodyear her entire career- a case that made it all the way to the Supreme Court. Come hear her story and find out how standard business practices affect her, you and all our daughters. Five years after the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was signed where are we? What are Congress and the President doing to improve the lives of hardworking women and their families? What can we do?
Workshops: There will be three workshop sessions throughout the conference. Each session will feature one presentation from each of the following categories:
Nurturing the inquisitive mind: Geared towards youth, this series focuses on educating, shaping and growing the next generation of leaders. Mastering the craft: Focusing on high school and college students, this series is aimed to assist women on breaking in, finding space and being successful in their field of choice. Shattering the ceiling: Intended to assist emerging professionals, this series focuses on climbing the ladder, negotiating space and advocating for yourself. Passing the torch: This series informs established professionals how to create opportunities, advocate for others, and pave paths for next generation of female leaders
