Showcasing physically arresting and visually provocative work from local artists presented alongside their creative peers from around the country, SCUBA's notable national touring network for dance returns to San Francisco.
Proudly presented by ODC in partnership with Velocity Dance Center (Seattle), The Ritz Theater (Minneapolis) and Philadelphia Dance Projects (Philadelphia), this year's not-to-be-missed standouts feature Nichole Canuso (Philadelphia), Elia Mrak (Seattle), SuperGroup (Minneapolis) and Bay Area artists NAKA Dance Theater (Jose Navarrete and Debby Kajiyama) who are returning SCUBA alumni.
SuperGroup (Minneapolis): "The Tent Has Been Pulled" A rigorous exploration of the multitasking body through the layering of text, sound, evolving movement, and wit.
NAKADance Theater (San Francisco Bay Area): "The Anastasio Project" Where Oscar Grant meets border patrol: a multidisciplinary work investigating race relations, state brutality, and border violence.
Elia Mrak (Seattle): "Erica" A testament to physicality, athleticism, imagination and the performer's essence. It is an improvised solo in silence by one striking female.
Nichole Canuso (Philadelphia): "Midway Avenue" Using Chopin's 24 Preludes as a frame to work within, the past and present overlap in ways both literal and ephemeral to create a composite portrait of a life.
