The Red Hot Chachkas take Jewish music a step further with their innovative fusion of traditional klezmer and American roots music, flavored with a variety of accents.
Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, the internationally-acclaimed Red Hot Chachkas infuse the klezmer tradition of Eastern European Yiddish music with jazz, rock, old-time, classical, and Latin influences in their original compositions, arrangements and improvisations. Their contagious musical performances inspire and transform audiences.
They have performed in many locations including the Ashkenaz Festival in Toronto, the Davies Symphony Hall, and at clubs, theaters, galleries, community centers, schools, Jewish congregations and private parties. Their style of music ranges from orthodox to outlandish, and their hot sound and upbeat tempo gets folks out of their seats to dance.
Led by bandleader and classical violinist, Julie Egger, the seasoned musicians draw on disparate influences and backgrounds: soulful Barbara Speed (clarinet), punk-rocker Aaron Seeman (accordion), bluegrass enthusiast Tony Phillips (mandolin) and jazzy Breck Diebel (bass). With the addition of World Music percussionist Aharon Wheels Bolsta, the energy of this group's rhythms and fresh instrumental sounds has audiences jumping out of their seats for more.
