Have you tried Zumba(R) yet? A Zumbathon(R) Charity Event will show you why Zumba(R) has grown from an obscure workout to a worldwide fitness phenomenon. You will see how much fun fitness can be! Zumba(R) is "a Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning dance fitness party!" Music is paced with fast and slow rhythms, resistance training, and all the shimmying and shaking inherent in salsa, merengue, flamenco, reggaeton, samba, belly dancing, hip hop, and cha cha. A Zumbathon(R) is a 3-hour dance party featuring several experienced Zumba(R) instructors, bringing the energy of a hundred or more dancers together for an unforgettable workout.
All proceeds from this Zumbathon(R) will go to The Oakland Tech PTSA to supplement the school's budget and programs. Oakland Technical High School is a comprehensive public school in the heart of Oakland that serves an ethnically diverse population of over 2000 teens. Fifty percent of students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, yet Tech's innovative, rigorous and supportive programs create a safe and positive college-focused environment. Oakland Tech PTSA, with over 1000 members, raises funds to supplement the school's budget and support sports, dance, technology, performing arts, and academic programs.
We are looking for donors and sponsors to help offset the event expenses.
Meet us on the front steps of Oakland Tech to dance the whole time, or for part of it. Local vendors and student groups will sell food and drinks, and students from Tech's Fashion and Design Academy will be on hand to "customize" t-shirts with scissors and paint.
Anyone who can stand (or even sit) and move can do Zumba. No experience is necessary and all ages are welcome, from kids to high school seniors to senior citizens! Bring your friends. Bring your family. If you come dance, you'll get a colorful Zumba wristband and a fantastic workout.
