Artistic Director Arianne MacBean's Los Angeles-based dance-theater group, The Big Show Co. presents two signature works at ODC Theater, June 26-28. MacBean, a Berkeley native who currently resides in Los Angeles, creates work that highlights the triumphs and failings of language - the language of the body and of text. Playful, enigmatic and engaging, The Big Show Co. presents The People Go Where The Chairs Are (2012) and the world premiere of a new work entitled, present tense - with mesmerizing original jazz music scores for both pieces by Composer Ivan Johnson.
The Big Show Co. has been presented by The DIA Center for the Arts and WOW in New York, and various venues in Los Angeles including: The Skirball Cultural Center, The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Armand Hammer Museum, Electric Lodge, Barnsdall Art Park, Highways Performance Space, the El Portal Theater, Electric Lodge, Diavolo Dance Space, CalArts Commuter Festival and REDCAT's Studio. In addition, the Company has also been presented by The A.W.A.R.D. Show! produced by The Joyce Theater NY. Internationally, the Big Show Co. toured Germany in 2001 teaching workshops and performing in Freiburg, Munich and Amoltern.
