Meet the Artists * See Where Art is Created
San Francisco, CA, April 7, 2014 - Shipyard Artists, America's largest artist colony with more than 280 artist work studios, and the Bayview Opera House, have teamed up to present the 25th Anniversary Spring Open Studios.
This event showcases 125+ exhibiting artists from seven Shipyard buildings and Islais Creek Studios.
Spring Open Studios gives art fans a rare portal into the artists' creative habitat. It's an opportunity to visit artists' studios, glimpse the creative process and purchase original art directly from more than 125 local artists with works in a sweeping range of styles, mediums and subject matter, offering a slice of contemporary art culture in two settings.
"We are San Francisco's best kept secret attraction," says Estelle Akamine, the founder of Shipyard Artists Spring Open Studios and an artist who creates dimensional textiles. "The public can only enter the gates twice a year. Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience our community and art."
Special features of the 25th Annual Shipyard Artists Spring Open Studios include the Bayview Underground Food Scene PopUp Market with many local vendors, live jazz, an art exhibit by Bayview school children, a participatory Kid Zone with arts activities for children and families and Riveropolis, presenting elevated waterways and imaginative landscapes. Admission and parking are free.
Spring Open Studios sponsors include Shipyard Trust for the Arts, The SF Shipyard and the San Francisco Arts Commission. Sunday Streets SF is a partner. Spring Open Studios media sponsors are the San Francisco Media Co. and KDFC-FM.
