V Vorres Gallery Presents: Modern Mastery, The Art of Muldoon Elder July - August. 2014 Artist's Reception July 26, 2014 from 4PM-8PM
The magnificent paintings, drawings and original prints by San Francisco's Muldoon Elder may be seen and savored at V Vorres San Francisco Gallery on Sacramento Street (at Spruce) during the months of July and August, 2014. Also featured are stunning works of art from Elder's collection of works by Albrecht Durer, Rembrandt, Odilon Redon, Pierre Bonnard, Matta, Francisco Toledo, Rodolfo Morales, Pablo Picasso, Antoni Tapies, and several other less known artists.
Elder's art is best summed up by a few quotes from Museum directors and critics:
"Muldoon Elder is one of my absolutely favorite, though relatively unknown, San Francisco artists. His brilliant and innovative paintings and drawings frankly put the works of many more highly known artists to abysmal shame. I'm amazed and also impressed that he has been content and even pleased to remain in the relative shadows of our known art world." _Henry Hopkins, Director, SF Museum of Art
"Elder's new abstractions are cosmic landscapes, and, like most things of cosmic magnitude, they are also introspective nature poetry, which are tightly wefted tapestries that sing with movement, space, and a remarkably sensuous colorism._Thomas Albright, San Francisco Chronicle.
"One of the finest artists whose studio I have been privleged to visit." _Frederick Hartt, Art Historian
"Total genius." _John Maxon, Director, The Art Institute of Chicago
"Elder is a painter of paradox, and his paintings demand an unusual complexity of response. They are surprises. One's first reaction is apt to be an emotional one, as the paintings are extraordinarily powerful in the use of color and form. At the same time, they are for the most part abstract paintings, so they invite an intellectual grasp as well. One participates with these paintings almost on impact." _Robin van Loben Sels
