Connect to the rhythm of globally-informed Bay Area dance with Namita Kapoor and Rueda con Ritmo in ODC Theater's presentation of Dance and Diaspora. What's the connection between jazz, tap, Cuban salsa, and Indian classical? As part of ODC's inaugural Music Moves Festival, follow the musicality and you'll find the movement.
Namita Kapoor- The ricocheting discourse between classical Indian percussion and dance, and jazz music and movement has been a "secret" dialogue of dance influence for decades. In "Hindu Swing," Namita Kapoor blends the percussive rhythmic genres of jazz and Indian music into a connected, rhythmic dance odyssey.
Rueda con Ritmo- Whether dancing on the one or the two, whether dancing casino or guaguanco, or whether inspired by the clave, the timbales, or the coro, Cuban music and dance are inseparable. Your feet will surely be tapping when Bay Area dance group Rueda con Ritmo perform their inspiring and highly rhythmic Cuban salsa.
