The Firehouse Arts Center Cabaret Series presents Society Cabaret's beloved tribute to the songs of the iconic American musical theater composer Stephen Sondheim. From West Side Story, Company, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music and Into the Woods, this prolific lyricist and composer has done it all. With songs like Send in the Clowns, Comedy Tonight! and I'm Still Here, the production also spotlights other classic Sondheim shows including Follies, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Merrily We Roll Along.
G. Scott Lacy heads the cast of some of San Francisco's finest singers from Society Cabaret's original production, as they bring this rich songbook to life.
Stephen Sondheim is described by Frank Rich of the New York Times as "now the greatest and perhaps best-known artist in the American musical theater." He is the winner of an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards, eight Grammy Awards, a Pulitzer Prize and the Laurence Olivier Award.
For this summer series, the Firehouse Arts Center Theater is transforming itself from traditional row-style seating into a cabaret/club setting, complete with tables and chairs for patrons who purchase tickets on the main floor. (Balcony seats will remain theater-style seating.) The Cellar Door, which operates concessions at the Firehouse, will be on hand with small plates, chocolates, wine and other beverages available for purchase.
