New Cesar's Latin Palace hosts benefit for El Tecolote newspaper
Salsa takes center stage in a benefit dance for the Mission District biweekly, bilingual newspaper El Tecolote. Featuring Cesar's Latin All-Stars on Saturday, July 26 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the new Cesar's Latin Palace located at 826-26th St. near Third Street in San Francisco.
Owner Cesar Ascarrunz continues a long-standing tradition of hosting benefits for El Tecolote that began in the 1970s at his intimate supper club setting on Green Street and later at the spacious Mission Street palace. With more than 50 years in the music and Latin club business, Ascarrunz also leads the 10-member All-Stars on electric piano.
El Tecolote is a Mission District bilingual, biweekly newspaper founded by Juan Gonzales in 1970. Since its inception, the newspaper has primarily focused on local issues and Latino popular culture. The newspaper is a project of Accion Latina, a non-profit cultural and educational organization in the Mission District.
The July 26 event is the third in a series of benefit dance-concerts that will run through the summer at the intimate and colorful dance hall. The August dance-concert will feature a spectacular show with special guests in celebration of El Tecolote's 44th anniversary.
"We are grateful to Cesar for his continued support of El Tecolote," Gonzales said. "You can expect a sizzling night of dance and fun, while helping us continue our mission to serve the information needs of our community."
The evening includes a demonstration of the latest salsa steps by noted dance instructor Ron Bermudez, as well as a food sale and a raffle. During the breaks, a DJ will spin the latest salsa hits. Doors open at 8 p.m.
There is plenty of security and free parking surrounding Cesar's Latin Palace. Admission is $10 and you must be 21 years or older. For more information, please call Ms. Mabel Jimenez at (415) 648-1045 ext. 101
