Aura Fischbeck Dance and Deborah Karp Dance Projects present new dance theater work at the Joe Goode Annex September 12-13 at 8pm and September 14 at 2pm.
Deborah Karp Dance Projects' "Standing On One Leg" investigates the relationship between the internal, private self and its public, external opposite. Movement-based research, exploration, and questions guide this work. What is the outward, performative expression of a shifting, inward landscape? How does the meaning of a simple movement change when executed with an internal focus instead of an external, audience-minded focus? Performed by Janet Das, Deborah Karp, and Mo Miner, with music by Robert Lopez, costume design by Emma Jaster, and lighting design by Delayne Medoff.
Aura Fischbeck Dance presents "Time Studies". Inspired by the seeming quickening of time passing in this modern age of technological inertia, Time Studies asks the question "are we keeping time, or is it keeping us?" and positions the moving body at the center of this question. Drawing inspiration from scientific, metaphysical and mythological perspectives Time Studies utilizes task based processes, changing physical states and durational experiments as choreographic devices, each of which reveals something about the way time is translated through the moving body. Time Studies will be performed by Caroline Alexander, Arletta Anderson, Aura Fischbeck, and Alison Williams, and features lighting design by Delayne Medoff and set design by Christopher Wise.
