Bay Area favorite Quartet San Francisco spotlights California composers on October 5 to open Crowden's 2014-15 Sundays @ Four chamber music series.
The concert will explore diverse and unexpected approaches to the string quartet genre, including works from QSF's latest CD, Pacific Premieres: New Works by California Composers. That album garnered Grammy nominations for two of its featured compositions, both programmed for the concert: Gordon Goodwin's "California Pictures for String Quartet" and Vince Mendoza's "Funky Diversions for String Quartet." Also slated: founding violinist Jeremy Cohen's original "Guamba" and "The Bay is Deep Blue," a piece of cool jazz written for QSF by Hollywood composer Patrick Williams. Expect a few surprise selectionsCohen, who first studied violin with Crowden's founder Anne Crowden, promises a few surprise selections, and QSF's lively repertoire ranges from tango to the Beatles.
