The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra (CCCO) opens its sensational 2014-2015 Season Saturday, September 27 at the immaculately-restored, historic El Campanil theatre in downtown Antioch.
"We're thrilled to be performing at this gorgeous venue, and look forward to being able to accommodate a new and larger audience," says conductor Tim Smith.
The opening program is a unique mix of compelling orchestral classics and intoxicatingly clever pop songs. Young Bay Area singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Matt Montgomery and his band will perform his compositions from his album Petty Troubles, backed by lush symphonic sounds, courtesy of orchestrations by Brian Adam McCune.
The orchestra will also perform the plaintively beautiful and fiery Folk Tune Air and Fiddler's Fury by Alexander Safford the Latin-infused, groove-laden Downey Overture by Oscar Navarro the delicately lyrical Serenade for Wind Instruments by Richard Strauss and the rousing and fervently patriotic Finlandia by Jean Sibelius.
On Sunday, September 28, it will follow up with a new matinee time in the lavish Lesher Center for the Arts in downtown Walnut Creek. "This afternoon concert is a fabulous event where families and audiences of all ages can enjoy a one-of-a-kind show," says Smith.
