Legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot appears in San Francisco, October 2, 2014, 8:00 p.m. at Davies Symphony Hall as part of his "50 Years on the Carefree Highway" 2014 cross-country tour of the United States. Celebrating an historic 50-year musical career as an international folk and country star, Gordon Lightfoot returns to San Francisco for the first time in over 40 years as part of a 51 performance tour spanning 24 states. Lightfoot, who is credited for helping define the folk-pop sound of the 1960s and 1970s, will appear on stage performing hit songs such as "Early Morning Rain" and "If You Could Read My Mind" alongside deep album cuts, woven together with behind the scenes stories and anecdotes from his illustrious career. Tickets are on sale and available through City Box Office.
Combined with his warm vocal talents and impressive guitar technique, Gordon Lightfoot's talent as a songwriter led him from the 1960s "coffeehouse scene" in Canada to numerous chart hits, ground-breaking platinum albums and accolades ranging from five Grammy nominations, 17 Canadian Juno Award and induction into both the United States and Canadian Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Lightfoot's 2014 tour name "50 Years on the Carefree Highway" is an homage to "then and now," representing the impressive breadth of his storied career. Supported by his vastly experienced core band, many of whom have been performing with him for 30-45 years, Lightfoot will perform a different set list every night.
Aside from the success in writing, singing and performing his own music, Lightfoot's songs have been recorded and performed by some of the greatest artists of all time including Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Barbra Streisand and Alison Krauss, among others.
