Info:
The congregation of the First Unitarian Church of Oakland joyfully announces the installation of the Reverend Jacqueline Duhart as our settled Minister for Faith in Action on October 5, 2014.
Mayor Jean Quan, representing the City of Oakland, will be attending Rev. Jacqueline Duhart's Installation to present a proclamation from the city in commemoration of this momentous occasion.
For the past four years, Reverend Jacqueline Duhart has served our beloved community as the Assistant Minister of Community Engagement working with passion and creativity to help us build a radically inclusive church and to grow our beloved community by expanding the welcome table to all. She guides and nurtures our Faith in Action Ministry Teams and provides leadership for our partnership with the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights. Under her leadership we have deepened our commitment to countering oppression as an intentional multiracial, multicultural and multigenerational congregation.
"It is my privilege and a dream come true," she shares, "to be called and settled in a congregation that refuses to be silent on issues of justice and knows that their faith in action matters to a world that hungers for beloved community." Her words echo those of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter."
Unitarian Universalism is a liberal and progressive faith movement characterized by its support of a free and responsible search for truth and meaning. We believe that every person is a unique person of worth and that our religion calls on us to create a world where all people are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.
The First Unitarian Church of Oakland is located at 685 14th Street in downtown Oakland. Services are on Sundays at 9:30 and 11:30 most of the year (check www.uuoakland.org for details)
