Info:
Improvising Democracy, OneBeat's Showcase at Sonos Studio LA, is an exploration of improvisation and technology, in collaboration with Sonos Studio and Ableton. This interactive performance will feature a global mix of OneBeat musicians as they explore diverse styles of musical improvisation from straight-ahead jazz to Cuban rumba, to interaction with intelligent technologies powered by Ableton Live.
This month, OneBeat, an adventurous new model of cultural diplomacy, has brought 25 musicians (ages 19-35) from 17 countries around the world to Los Angeles to collaboratively compose, produce, and perform original music and develop strategies for social engagement through music. Three public performances by OneBeat Fellows in LA are scheduled - Improvising Democracy: Showcase at Sonos Studio on Wednesday, October 22 at 7pm at Sonos Studio, Beats & Bridges: A Global Day of the Dead Themed Block Party Across the First St. Bridge on Friday, October 24 at 7pm at Mariachi Plaza, and OneBeat Living Room Concert on Saturday, October 25 at 8pm at Art Share L.A.
The theme of OneBeat in Los Angeles is Beats & Bridges - musical happenings designed to strengthen relationships between LA's 1st St. Bridge communities and connect them with vibrant musical movements around the world. OneBeat Fellows will collaborate with residents and organizations based in Boyle Heights, Little Tokyo and the Arts District to reinforce historic and current connections between these three LA neighborhoods, while exchanging globally-applicable strategies for using music to bridge cultural and political divides.
Now in its third year, OneBeat is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, produced by Bang on a Can's Found Sound Nation. OneBeat is an incubator for music-based social entrepreneurship where innovative musicians from around the world launch collaborative projects designed to make a positive impact on local and global communities.
