Choreographer Katharine Hawthorne presents ClockWork, November 20-22, 2014, at ODC Theater. The program features two dances exploring complementary views of time: the beating of the heart, and the ticking of the clock.
Hawthorne's athletic and intelligent work brings art and science together as interlinked frames of reference. In Pulse, developed at the Emerging Choreographers' Project at Springboard Danse Montreal, dancers respond to the sound of their heartbeats, seeking an internal sense of time. The Escapement traverses the history of timekeeping and the way it affects our perception of darkness and light. Hawthorne has enlisted lighting designer David Robertson to collaboratively reimagine the piece, which was first performed in May 2014.
Called "a choreographer to watch-a 21st Century artist with a unique talent" (Heather Desaulniers, SFArts Monthly), ClockWork sets Hawthorne's ideas in motion.
The dancers are Jesse L. Chin, Katherine Disenhof, Katharine Hawthorne, Suzette Sagisi, Chuck Wilt, & Megan Wright.
