1939 marked the very first performance of the famous Vienna New Year's Day concert, played by the Vienna Philharmonic in the Musikverein's Golden Hall. Conductor Clemens Krauss had the honor of being the first to lead what would be one of the greatest Viennese musical traditions of the century. Salute to Vienna has carried on this grand tradition, and its New Year's concert is truly a must-see culmination of the holiday season. This magnificent concert features uplifting melodies from famous operettas including Die Fledermaus and The Merry Widow, as well as polkas and Strauss waltzes.
Hungarian conductor Andras Deak, Viennese Soprana Sera Gosch, and Viennese tenor Michael Heim lead the Strauss Symphony of America featuring the Philly POPS, with dancers from the exquisite Kiev-Aniko Ballet of Ukraine and International Champion Ballroom Dancers, for a 14th annual Salute to Vienna New Year's concert at the Music Center at Strathmore on January 4, 2015.
