Exhibition January 30-March 7, Artist reception Saturday February 7, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
The Vorres Gallery proudly presents the work of artist Zachary Roberts. This collection of original paintings, mixed-media sculptures and installation will open at the Presidio Heights gallery on Friday, January 30, 2015 and runs through Saturday, March 7, 2015.
An artist reception will be held Saturday February 7, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Utilizing painting, sculpture, and performance ephemera, Zachary Roberts creates a compelling narrative. Referencing Manzanar, the World War II internment camp 230 miles north of Los Angeles, and vintage newsreels, propaganda efforts, and contemporary scientific journals, Fictional Histories reveals the connection between local San Francisco history, world events, mythology, nuclear fission, sacred texts and apocryphal tradition.
With a BFA in sculpture, San Francisco-based Zachary Roberts uses painting, sculpture, and installation as a language to express and investigate contemporary challenges of the human experience as those stories are told. Neither nostalgic, nor sentimental, his work illuminates ephemeral moments that leave the viewer to interpret the scene from his or her own history or perspective. His works are subtle yet poignant, laden with layers of historical and geographical significance.
