Kalanjali is a cultural arm of Chinmaya Mission Los Angeles, located in Tustin. Kalanjali supports art, music and culture of India through its programs. Subhapriya's concert is free with a pass that can be obtained from the website www.kalanjali.info.
Subhapriya was born in a family of musicians. She is introduced to music by her parents Smt. Radha & Thiruvaiyaru Sri S. R. Krishnan. Her Father is himself a noteworthy singer and composer of critical acclaim.
Subhapriya underwent extensive training with Sangeeta Kalanidhi (Late)Professor S. Ramanathan. She has also had the privilege of learning under Vairamangalalm Sri Lakshminarayanan and Sangeeta Kalanidhi Palghat Sri K.V.Narayanaswamy. A resident of the bay area, she has coordinated numerous concerts and music festivals and is one of the core founder-volunteers of the bay area classical music organization SVLOTUS. She has performed for operas and dance dramas, has composed for and directed many musical dance-dramas and operas. She heads a spiritual organization called SGM to help promote the practices of sanatanadharma.
Although from a traditional and classical music background, Subhapriya has learned, performed and been exposed to various forms of vocal music including Jazz & Blues, Gospel Rock, Western classical, Hindustani Classical, Indian film and ghazal/Qawali.
For Kalanjali, Subhapriya, accompanied by 5 other artists, will demonstrate the influence of Classical Ragas in film music, and Ghazals. This is a light classical concert, The program will be informative, engaging, and entertaining to all audiences. Adults and students of music alike will learn to appreciate various Ragas as they are adopted by movies and other popular music. One would be able to hear and understand the intricacies of Ragas and creative use of the scales as they are used in different genres as Subhapriya weaves through the Tunes and Scales.
