The Native American Story Events for the whole family to enjoy!
Did you know....The Ohlone people have lived in Oakland for 3,500 years?
Have you ever wondered about the lives of the Native Peoples of Oakland? What were their houses like? What did they eat? What did they believe? How did they use the animals and plants, and the waterways, of the East Bay? What happened to the Native Americans go when the Spanish-speaking priests, soldiers and settlers came in the 1700s? And later, when the Americans arrived in the 1850s? Who are the Native Peoples of the East Bay today?
Come to a free course on Oakland's Native History for six Saturdays in March and April from 230-530 at Peralta Hacienda. Explore the world of the Ohlone and other groups with culture bearers and experts on the lifeways of the Ohlone and other indigenous peoples of the East Bay. (Many came from all over the United States during relocation from the reservations in the 1960s! Their stories will also be told.)
The course starts March 7. You can drop in to one or come to all six sessions.
Every session will include hands-on activities for all. Kids are very welcome!
Parents must stay with their children during the course.
