Featuring a music, dance and singing performance in honor of the Yoruba Goddess Yemanja The Festa de Yemanja takes place every February 2nd at Rio Vermelho in Bahia, Brazil, the heart of Afro Brazilian cultural traditions. Thousands gather to make their offerings to Yemanja and to ask for their prayers to be fulfilled. Elaborately decorated baskets filled with flowers and gifts of perfume and jewelry are taken out to sea and left for the goddess. The day is filled with dancing, drumming and celebration.
