Tim Rubel Human Shakes and Right Brain Performancelab join forces to present a double feature of their new works, "Menace" and "The Elephant In The Room" as part of The San Francisco International Arts Festival 2015.
Right Brain Performancelab will present "The Elephant in the Room," featuring an invisible pachyderm who inhabits the stage confounding a cast of three performers who define it through dance, clowning and song. This piece is a physical theater rumination on what goes unnoticed, a blend of movement, shadows and sound exploring the human ability to overlook something, even when it is important or obvious. It is also a journey into the emotional lives of the three clowns who are revealed as multidimensional characters over the length of the piece as the "elephants" are unveiled.
Tim Rubel Human Shakes will premiere a new piece called "Menace." It will be a descent into madness balanced between self-control and self-indulgence. "Menace" is a landscape of visceral reality, where whimsical intuition is favored over mindful logic, highlighting the fragility and volatility of human nature. The menace in this dance is sometimes threatening, pathetic, ridiculous, and terrifying. This piece will pose questions about the value of life. When do we turn on each other during tumultuous times? Who do we choose to devour and who do we choose to save. It asks who is hunted and why? "Menace" will explore these revolting dynamics of power that have lasting effects. Tim Rubel Human Shakes will present this work as the first excerpt of a larger work-in-progress that will premiere as a full-length production in the 2016 San Francisco International Arts Festival.
These performances of "The Elephant In The Room" by Right Brain Performancelab and "Menace" by Tim Rubel Human Shakes at SFIAF are part of the Fort Mason Center Presents series and were partially underwritten with the support of the Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation.
