Celebrate local talent at the Piedmont Appreciating Diversity Committee's Community Night at Yoshi's at Jack London Square on Thursday, April 30 at 8:00pm. The evening's lineup features jazz band Mingus Amungus roots and reggae duo Mike Rufo and Far I Shields and spoken word artists Together We Slam. Ticket prices are $25 for adults $20 for students (18 and younger) dinner is not included but can be ordered at the performance.
Mingus Amungus, led by Piedmont resident Miles Perkins, builds on the complex bebop, funk and classical rhythms of virtuoso bass player and composer Charles Mingus and adds their own twist, including some of San Francisco's native hip hop jazz. Joining the all-star band will be Together We Slam, a group of Piedmont high school and middle school students performing a set of written word pieces on how we view and experience differences. Rounding out the program is Piedmont singer/songwriter and social justice activist Mike "Roof" Rufo teaming up with reggae and jazz artist Far I Shields.
Proceeds benefit PADC's Grants Program, which has awarded nearly $9,000 this year for educational programming, events, and materials supporting and promoting diversity in the Piedmont schools and community.
