Gain critical knowledge and skills necessary to practice HR in the complex state of California.
May 4 - Welcome, Introduction, and New HR Topics We will review legal developments and recent changes in California employment laws, rules, regulations, and court decisions that can affect HR. We will survey survey topics that particularly interest you with the objective of including them where we can in the program.
May 6 - Time Off: Vacations, Paid Time Off, FMLA, CFRA, and PDL Leaves of Absence We will focus on how overlapping leaves, state and federal, such as FMLA, CFRA, and PDL, should be applied and integrated discuss SDI and Paid Family Leave. We will close with a discussion of how SDI and PFL apply to leaves of absence.
May 11 - Employment Discrimination and Training Requirements Discuss the role of California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and its protection against discrimination and retaliation, California's protected categories including the newly added categories. We will review legal processes including claims and lawsuits, investigations, penalties and measures involved in legal cases. We will also review new disability discrimination requirements under California law. Finally, we will review and discuss California's AB 1825 Supervisor Sexual Harassment Prevention training.
May 13 - Workplace Safety, Workers Compensation, and other Health and Safety Requirements We will also discuss Workers' Compensation, who is covered, who is not, what is covered, types of injuries, the Log 300, 300A, and 301 forms.
May 18 - At-Will Employment, Wrongful Termination, Privacy, and HR Certification Overview
