New Growth 2015: HEART of the City is Root Division's annual Youth Art Celebration & Exhibition, featuring hands-on family art-making activities alongside an exhibition of artwork made by students and instructors in Root Division's free after school Youth Education Program.
Held on the second Saturday of May from 1-4 pm, this fun and accessible family event is free and open to the public. Throughout the afternoon there will be free hands-on art activities for the whole family, including face painting and a block printing activity hosted by Artist & Craftsman Supply, a live performance by the Golden Gate Philharmonic, and plenty of free healthy snacks & refreshments onsite.
The gallery exhibition, which will be on view from May 6 through May 15, features creative endeavors in painting, sculpture, drawing, and mixed media made by elementary school students in our Youth Education Program shown alongside the artwork of our artist-instructors. Root Division artists will be onsite, with Open Studios during this event, offering visitors of all ages the opportunity to view the spaces as well as the completed and in-progress works by the 11 artists in our Studios Program.
