Info:
Grammy-winning guitar virtuoso Jason Vieaux performs with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in its Spanish Dances concert at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. The concert also features pianist Alessio Bax, violinist Benjamin Beilman, and the Escher String Quartet.
Spanish Dances includes Vieaux performing in Aaron Jay Kernis' 100 Greatest Dance Hits for guitar and string quartet Boccherini's Quintet No. 4 in D Major for guitar and string quartet and Paganini's Terzetto Concertante in D Major for viola, guitar, and cello. The concerts will also include Falla's "Danza del molinero" from El sombrero de tres picos for piano and his "Danza ritual del fuego, para ayuentar los malos espiritus" from El Amor Brujo for piano, plus Albeniz's "Tango" from Espana for piano, Op. 165 and Ravel's Sonata for violin and piano.
"Any day the guitar has such a prominent role in a concert at a venue like Alice Tully Hall is a great day for our instrument, Vieaux says. "I am honored as always to be working with the folks at Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and with my amazing musician friends Ben Beilman and the Eschers!"
NPR describes Grammy-winning guitarist Jason Vieaux as, "perhaps the most precise and soulful classical guitarist of his generation," and Gramophone puts him "among the elite of today's classical guitarists." His most recent solo album, Play, won the 2015 Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Solo. In June 2014, NPR named "Zapateado" from the album as one of its "50 Favorite Songs of 2014 (So Far)." Vieaux's latest album is Together, with harpist Yolanda Kondonassis, released in January 2015 on Azica Records.
