Info:
Cellist Maya Beiser makes her Ojai Music Festival debut in three concerts at the 2015 festival, from June 12-14, 2015. On Saturday, June 13 at 3pm, she performs music from her latest album Uncovered with percussionist Glenn Kotche and bassist Gyan Riley at Ojai Valley School's Greenberg Activity Center.
Re-contextualizing classic rock through the lens of her cello, Maya goes deep inside music by Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Janis Joplin, and Howlin' Wolf to reveal the core of each song as a musical masterpiece - a totem of our collective consciousness forged by our shared, popular culture - in music from her 2014 album Uncovered. With arrangements by Evan Ziporyn, Uncovered was in the top 10 on the Billboard Classical Chart upon release in August 2014. The San Francisco Chronicle raved, "With this electrifying disc, the avant-garde cello virtuoso Maya Beiser transforms herself into something of a rock 'n' roll diva." She's joined by drummer Glenn Kotche and bassist Gyan Riley.
