Info:
Cellist Maya Beiser makes her Ojai Music Festival debut in three concerts at the 2015 festival, from June 12-14, 2015. On Sunday, June 14 at 11am, she performs in a Morning Concert that also features Wu Man, pipa Sandeep Das, tabla the Calder Quartet and percussion quartet red fish blue fish at Libbey Bowl.
In this Morning Concert, Maya performs Arab-American composer Mohammed Fairouz's new Kol Nidrei, in which she sings the text in Aramaic and engages echoes of ancient cantorial styles, as well as Chinary Ung's Khse Buon for unaccompanied cello, written in 1980 as a response to tragic events in the composer's native Cambodia. She joins Wu Man for Bright Sheng's Three Songs for pipa and cello, and red fish blue fish for Tan Dun's Elegy: Snow in June for cello and percussion quartet. With Wu Man and Sandeep Das she performs Gabriela Lena Frank's Chayraq!. Evan Ziporyn's Sulvasutra featuring Maya with Wu Man, the Calder Quartet, and Sandeep Das completes the program.
