Z Space is proud to present two of the most creative Bay Area theater-makers Mark Jackson and Megan Trout, in NOW FOR NOW, a long simmering collaboration between the two that debuts this July. NOW FOR NOW brings together elements of theater, dance, and technology in a unique and ambitious way.
The premise of this multi-media physical theater piece is to follow three male/female relationshipsfather & daughter, teacher & student and a romanceover the course of 40 years, where the protagonists are a generation apart. Using what the creators call, a "disorderly narrative," the piece employs smart phones and laptops used as modes of communication between the characters, as well as a means for the actors to control the stage tech aspects of the show.
With hand-held and mobile devices helping drive the action and narrative, the decision as to when or if to press send becomes a dramatic act. And the alternating modes of communicationdialog, movement, IM's and Skypechange the ways in which the characters relate to one another across time and geography.
"Our thinking,' says Trout, "is to examine these three relationships and the dynamics between different ages and genders in a way that flirts with entertainment and voyeurisma dual lens that in this contemporary world of instant and mobile communications has perhaps become the norm. The ramifications of which, we're still only beginning to understand."
The intention of the evening is to entertain the audience as it gallops through time, technology and the peculiar tactics we use when connected, to embrace or avoid each other.
