This year marks the 40th anniversary of Born to Run, Bruce Springsteen's 1975 masterpiece album, included in the Library of Congress' roster of historic recordings. Co-presented by The Contemporary Jewish Museum, this one-of-a-kind celebration includes personal reminiscences and dramatic and musical interpretations. With rock critic and author Ben Fong-Torres, musician Tom Heyman, author/humorist Beth Lisick, San Francisco poet laureate Alejandro Murguia, A.C.T. artistic director Carey Perloff, rock critic Joel Selvin, and music biographer and musician Sylvie Simmons.
Ben Fong-Torres is an acclaimed music journalist of 45 years, a former Rolling Stone editor and the author of eight books.
Tom Heyman is a San Francisco-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has played with a variety of A-list musicians including John Doe and Chuck Prophet, and bands like The Court and Spark.
Beth Lisick is author of five books, including The New York Times bestseller Everybody Into the Pool, an actor, screenwriter, and co-founder of the Porchlight Storytelling Series.
San Francisco Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguia is author of Southern Front and This War Called Love (both winners of the American Book Award), and this year, Stray Poems.
Carey Perloff is artistic director of American Conservatory Theater, a playwright and author of the memoir Beautiful Chaos: A Life in the Theater.
San Francisco Chronicle pop music critic Joel Selvin (Here Comes the Night: The Dark Soul of Bert Berns and the Dirty Business of Rhythm and Blues) started covering rock shows for the paper shortly after the end of the Civil War.
Praised by J.G. Ballard, bowed to by Leonard Cohen, called "short enough" by Lou Reed, Sylvie Simmons is a rock and roll writer and her latest bestselling biography on Leonard Cohen is available in every language ever known to man.
5:30 pm VIP pre-show reception includes wine and appetizers with the performers as well as special seating.
