Joe Goode Performance Group and Z Space reprise their winning collaboration that brought you When We Fall Apart (2012), HUSH (2013), and the remounting of Wonderboy and 29 Effeminate Gestures (2014).
Poetics of Space is JGPG's latest venture into creating dance-theater that offers limitless potential for providing each audience member with a unique, personal, "human scale" experience. Poetics of Space-derived from the book "The Poetics of Space" by French philosopher Gaston Bachelard-will explore a series of intimate spaces within the installation, and allow the viewer a cinematic "close-up" experience of each space. Imagine moving through a performance where you can create your own adventure where your decision of where to turn, to step, to look, and to listen will determine how the performance unfolds around you.
"This movement towards performance installation is not a movement away from the magic of theater but a fresher, more realistic way of creating a theater experience that engages the viewer more actively."-Joe Goode
Sean Riley, known for designing sets that radically transform spaces into beautiful immersive experiences, is a key collaborator on this project.
"I should say: the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace."-Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space
JGPG company members performing in Poetics of Space are Felipe Barrueto-Cabello, Melecio Estrella, Damara Vita Ganley, Andrew Ward and Patricia West.
Additionally, JGPG dancer emerita Marit Brook-Kothlow returns to perform in Poetics of Space. Brook-Kothlow collaborated and performed with the company for seventeen years, and was nominated for an Isadora Duncan Dance Award for her role in Joe Goode Performance Group's Hometown.
Please note that audience members move through the installation/performance as it occurs there is no seating for this production. Seating can be provided if needed.
