It is important that we devote a special celebration to the face, co-founder and visionary of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir (OIGC), Mr. Terrance Kelly. OIGC was founded in 1986, inspired by Terrance Kelly and the renowned, annually occurring Jazz Camp West. This multifaceted choir, now in its 30th year, brings together vocalists and instrumentalists of varying ethnicities, a plethora of faiths and age groups, all in solidarity with a common appreciation for black spiritual traditions. With members ranging from Jewish to Muslim to atheist, OIGC can be seen as a triumph in diversity. In addition, Kelly is an effective youth organizer, advocate and teacher. Known to the teens as "uncle T", he has expended great effort to empower teens through the youth gospel choir, voted Best Youth Gospel Choir in the 2007 No. Cal Gospel Academy Awards.
The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir has for years established itself as a powerhouse advocate for art, diversity, and community service in the Bay Area. This past July 2015, the group completed a three-country European tour, with performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, three sold-out shows Molde Jazz Festival in Norway, and one at Godthaabskirken in Denmark.
