Dance Theatre of San Francisco (DTSF) presents the 2015 Fall Program, under the new artistic direction of Dexandro 'D' Montalvo, November 6-8, Cowell Theater. For three evenings, DTSF will feature premieres by Amy Seiwert (Smuin Ballet, Amy Seiwert's Imagery) and Dexandro 'D' Montalvo (Robert Moses' Kin Dance Company), as well as the reprisal of "Toward September" (2008) by Robert Moses.
This special, one weekend performance features two premieres by Mr. Montalvo: a full company piece inspired by DTSF dancers, and a second untitled work that is a quartet for two men and two women on pointe. In his second new work, Mr. Montalvo is interested in exploring a different way of choreographing that will disrupt the normal social construct of the rehearsal process. Mr. Montalvo explains, "I feel that we are in an interesting time where the social construct of the United States is being challenged by many human rights movements (#blacklivesmatter, gay marriage, the confederate flag, immigration policy, etc.). My new piece will explore the dynamic of how people, both personally and in a community, must create boundaries to find a sense of peaceful co-existence."
Ms. Seiwert's premiere is a new duet currently untitled. Mr. Moses will present "Toward September" (2008), a pure movement piece about the divine impulse of artistic creation.
