Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir Celebrates 30th Anniversary with a Special Holiday Concert hosted by Danny Glover
The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir (OIGC), under the direction of Terrance Kelly, is celebrating its 30-year anniversary. Join OIGC for a wall-shaking holiday concert at the historic Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Tickets go on sale to the public October 1st. This will be a gospel music extravaganza not to be missed: hosted by Danny Glover, with performances by the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Youth Choir, and Community Choir, and a special performance by the Alumni Choir.
With its long list of awards and honors, OIGC is known for musical excellence and world-class talent. Each performance is unique, and the holiday concert is the most spectacular event of the year. Previous attendees have called it inspiring, unforgettable, and "my favorite part of every holiday season."
About Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir: OIGC was founded in 1986, inspired by Terrance Kelly's workshops at Jazz Camp West. This multifaceted choir, now in its 30th year, brings together vocalists and instrumentalists of varying ethnicities, faiths, and age groups, all in solidarity with a common appreciation for black gospel and spiritual music traditions. With members ranging from Jewish to Muslim to Christian to atheist, OIGC can be seen as a triumph in diversity.
OIGC has firmly established itself as a powerhouse advocate for art, diversity, and community service in the Bay Area and beyond. In July 2015, the group completed a three-country European tour, with two mesmerizing performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, three sold-out shows at the Molde Jazz Festival in Norway, and one roof-lifting concert at Godthaabskirken in Copenhagen, Denmark.
American Sign Language interpreters Sherry Hicks and Michael Velez of Half-N-Half will be on hand for their fourth appearance providing ASL interpretation for the show.
