Art is Hot in San Francisco this Fall. Start your art tour at ground zero! Project Artaud is at the hub of activity in the Mission. There are over 100 artists' studios within a 3 block radius of Alabama and Mariposa Streets, as well as artisanal eateries and other vendors. Many studios will have live demonstrations of work, and all open studios welcome questions from the public.
Project Artaud Open Studios represents approximately 20 artists on three floors of the former American Can Company factory. Ricky Weisbroth's recently completed mural "The Sixth Extinction" greets visitors at Alabama Street at 17th Street. Inside, participating artists include painters, print makers, sculptors, photographers and textile artists. On display will be Jonah Roll's whimsical seafaring scenes inspired by his roots in Hawaii, Javier Manrique's works on paper, Laurie Anderson new series of gouache paintings, Wendy Gilmore's wearable art and Phil Deal's visual music paintings. Logos Graphics will demonstrate the handmade paper process, Binky's Barn in their 16th year, aids visitors in creating their own block prints.
ArtSpan's Fall Open Studios is a month long celebration of San Francisco Artists. Four weekends in the fall, each weekend focuses on a different region of the City. It's a great opportunity to explore our neighborhoods, and to connect with the creative life of San Francisco. And so close to the holidays it is a unique chance to buy that special gift or begin a collection of your own.
Take BART to 16th and Mission, then the 22 or 33 bus east to Harrison. One block east at Alabama go right and we are between 17th and Mariposa Streets. For more info on this fall's activities, www.artspan.org has maps and previews of artists' work. See you here!!!
