Recognized by Music Web International as, "uncompromising in power, intensity and spiritual depth," the famed Alexander String Quartet will be joined with young virtuoso pianist, Joyce Yang, in presenting three illustrious piano quintets. The Alexander String Quartet has served as San Francisco Performances Ensemble in Residence for over 25 years presenting popular concert series such as, "Mozart in Vienna," where they explored and performed many of the beloved, Haydn inspired Mozart Quartets.
The Alexander String Quartet has performed in the major music capitals of five continents, securing its standing among the world's premier ensembles over nearly three decades. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, and Shostakovich, the quartet has also established itself as an important advocate of new music through over twenty-five commissions and numerous premiere performances. The Alexander String Quartet is a major artistic presence in its home base of San Francisco, serving there as directors of the Morrison Chamber Music Center at the School of Music and Dance in the College of Arts and Humanities at San Francisco State University and Ensemble in Residence of San Francisco Performances.
Joining them, blessed with "poetic and sensitive pianism" (Washington Post) and a "wondrous sense of color" (San Francisco Classical Voice), pianist Joyce Yang who captivates audiences across the globe with her virtuosity, lyricism, and magnetic stage presence. At just 27, she has established herself as one of the leading artists of her generation through her innovative solo recitals and collaborations with the world's top orchestras. In 2010 she received an Avery Fisher Career Grant, one of classical music's most prestigious accolades.
