Info:
Brimming with music and information packed with history and humor, this popular series has brought together the award winning Alexander String Quartet and music historian Robert Greenberg for more than two decades. Better than brunch and more entertaining than the morning paper, these concerts present performances of complete works surrounded by illuminating talks about the history and times of their composers
Mozart in Vienna: Season Two, Four Saturdays-Mozart Transcendent, follows the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during his residence in Vienna. In the ten years that followed his arrival, until his death in 1791, Mozart composed more masterworks in more genres than any other composer before or since. The tragedy of Mozart's early death is compounded by the fact that during the last years of his life, his music acquired an entirely new level of intensity: polyphonic intensity developmental intensity and waste-not-a-single note expressive intensity. And while we cannot know where Mozart's muse might have taken him had he lived a longer life, we do know that the late quartets and quintets in this series stand as preeminent examples of his mature-and-transcendent-musical voice.
