The 37th annual Celebration of Craftswomen has just announced their 2015 event dates for the 3-day Thanksgiving weekend, Friday-Sunday, November 27, 28, and 29, 10am-5pm each day at the newly renovated Herbst Pavilion at the beautiful Fort Mason Center, San Francisco. Attended by 10,000 annually, the Celebration of Craftswomen is the largest and longest running arts and crafts show in the U.S. featuring over 150 women artists. This show is a unique opportunity to find gorgeous, one-of-a-kind holiday gifts, fine crafts, and contemporary art, showcasing the latest trends in handcrafts.
Holiday shopping at the Celebration of Craftswomen not only provides a variety of unique gifts. This year's show will include a variety of live crafts demonstrations from craftswomen all weekend long. Visitors can explore the innovative world of contemporary crafts and immerse themselves in the creative process as local artists provide a behind-the-scenes look and encourage participation in Q&A after each demonstration. Since its inception, the Celebration of Craftswomen has benefited The Women's Building, a multi-cultural community center where women and girls achieve self-sufficiency and pursue their dreams, and has raised over $1.9 million for women's programs. In line with The Women's Building, the arts and crafts fair celebrates women's creativity and advocates for building business skills for artists from all over the Nation. The annual event now known as the Celebration of Craftswomen began in 1976 as a small crafts show, held at the Old Wives' Tales bookstore on Valencia Street in San Francisco. The event featured 22 craftswomen from the Bay Area and couple of food vendors. The crafts show was a huge success. Even so, no one dreamed it would become the largest and most respected women's crafts fair in the nation. The unique vision of building a show where women are encouraged to be artists and operators has its roots in the feminist movement.
