The Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir invites you to celebrate the world's holiday music at its first concert of the season - the very popular Candlelight Concert - on December 5 at St. Joseph Basilica in Alameda beginning at 8:00 pm.
In his first concert as conductor of the highly regarded choir, Ecco, Eric Tuan has carefully selected contemporary choral music from England, Hungry, Estonia and the United States including Gyorgy Orban's virtuosic Daemon irrepit callidus and Veljo Tormis's haunting arrangements of Three Estonian Lullabies.
Ensemble, the flagship of the organization directed by Artistic Director Robert Geary, will perform Quelle est cette odeur agreable? (What is that sweet fragrance?) a traditional French Carol as arranged by Paul Carey In terra pax (On Earth Peace) by Marek Jasinski, a contemporary Polish composer Aalloilla (At Sea), by Tellu Turrka and Steal Away, a spiritual arranged by Brian Trant.
Concert Choir, conducted by Andrew Brown, will perform Carol of the Bells, Cozy Cap Nap (Kocsar), and Model Etudes (Tormis) before combining with Ensemble to perform There was a child went forth every day by American composer Stacy Garrop.
Rounding out the program will be a set by the stunning treble chamber choir, Ancora, who will perform Ding Dong Merrily on High (arranged by Eric Tuan) Silvery Blue by American composer Ann Calloway Daniel Nelson's I am in need of music Finnish composer Sanna Salminen's Like Me, Lauliku lapsepoli, by Veljo Tormis (Estonia) and For Music, by Tonu Korvitz (Estonia).
