Winchester Orchestra announces another first musical event: a conductor exchange. And what an exchange it is. Maestro Sebastiano De Filippi's credentials are far too many to quote here, but suffice it to say he has studied with preeminent masters and attended prestigious music conservatories. To get the whole fascinating story, check his website at http://www.sebastianodefilippi.com.ar/english/biography.html. He's traveling north from South America to conduct our February concert which includes Rossini's Overture to La gazza ladra, Sibelius' Violin Concerto featuring award-winning violinist Andrew Sords, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol. In exchange, our dynamic conductor, Michael DiGiacinto, will conduct an orchestra of De Filippi's choosing in South America TBA.
The purpose of such an exchange is to give conductors an exciting challenge with a different orchestra and possibly in a different language and culture. In the end, though, the music they make together will transcend all languages and cultures and connect directly with the human spirit.
We are a community orchestra dedicated to supporting the greater San Jose Area in an effort to bring classical music in an innovative, affordable manner to the community. We welcome families and encourage the attendance of those not normally drawn to classical music. We continue to welcome qualifying high school students to play with our orchestra.
