Info:
Brewster Kahle is the founder of the Internet Archive, a non-profit digital library that preserves and provides free access to cultural artifacts. Through the Internet Archive, Kahle has spearheaded efforts to "copy" audio, visual, and book collections, as well as the internet itself, creating a repository of human existence. As cultural materials are increasingly erased and eroded over time, the Internet Archive champions our right to remember: to investigate and learn from past human experience.
Kahle is a passionate advocate for public internet access and a successful entrepreneur. He has spent his career focusing on providing universal access to all knowledge. The Internet Archive is one of the largest libraries in the world, preserving 20 petabytes of data, and working with more than 400 library and university partners. After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied artificial intelligence, Kahle helped found the company Thinking Machines, a parallel supercomputer maker. In 1989, he created the Internet's first publishing system called Wide Area Information Server (WAIS). In 1996, Kahle co-founded Alexa Internet, which helps catalog the web.
