The O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley will exhibit in the Loft Gallery "New Territories: Tempera Paintings by Patricia K Kelly" from February 25th to March 24th, 2016 featuring over twenty works by the acclaimed artist. This exhibition brings together images on paper as well as larger abstract panels painted with egg tempera.
The opening reception in the Loft Gallery takes place on March 1st from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Patricia K Kelly graduated with an MFA from The San Francisco Art Institute. She's been a resident artist at The O'Hanlon Center for the Arts for ten years. Kelly employs 14th century Italian methods to prepare gesso and paints. Her gessoed panels are created with raw materials of pigment applied in layers of concentrated and detailed brushwork. "Painting is silent," says the artist about her process. "Beauty draws us into another realm." Her abstract devotional images reflect a paradoxical curiosity and stillness. She explains her recent work as "new territories," new places where the imagination creates what she terms "the half-state between dream and possibility."
Patricia K Kelly has been an artist-in-residence at The Fine Arts Museum, Legion of Honor, and a former affiliate resident at The Headlands Center for Arts in Sausalito, California, and visiting artist at the American Academy Rome. Her work has been exhibited at Intersection for the Arts, San Francisco Art Institute, California State University, Chico, CA, Simon Liu Gallery, and the Royal Academy of Arts in London as well as many others. Born in Great Britain, she is now an American citizen.
