Gain a broad perspective of HR tailored to California's specific and complex regulations. In five 90-minute online sessions, you'll cover the basics of employment law, hiring, compensation, benefits and occupational safety/workers compensation - all from the unique California perspective.
May 9 - Introduction and New HR Topics in California A general discussion of HR's biggest problems and a review of recent California employment laws that impact California employers
May 11 - Vacations, Paid Time Off, Leaves of Absence Discuss employer legal requirements relative to vacations, sick leave, holidays, and paid time off including kin care. Review the new and amended pregnancy regulations. Also review the application and integration of FMLA, CFRA, and PDL leaves of absence and how SDI and PFL wage replacement programs interact with these mandated leaves.
May 16 - Employment Discrimination and Training Requirements Discuss California's FEHA and who it covers. Define discrimination, retaliation, expanded protected classes, and laws prohibiting discrimination. Review new and amended disability regulation and cover aspects of sexual harassment prevention training.
May 18 - Workplace Safety and Workers' Compensation Discuss the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP), heat illness protections, and other laws addressing workplace safety. Review workers' compensation, discuss who and what is covered, as well as relevant types of injuries. Review records: Log 300, 300A, 301, DWC-1 and 5020 forms.
May 23- At-Will Employment, Privacy, and Professional HR Certification Discuss the definition and meaning of at-will employment and termination issues regarding at-will employees. Learn about California's privacy rights and requirements. Learn about Professional HR Certification: PHR, SPHR, PHR-CA, and SPHR-CA. Program wrap-up and Q&A.
